Botswana submits Afcon 2027 bid book

However, addressing the media earlier this month, The Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, Tumiso Rakgare, assured Batswana that the government of Botswana is ready to assist in hosting the AFCON 2027, saying that they have the whole of the 2025/ 2026 financial year and part of the 2026/ 2027 financial year to finance the deficit and they will also engage private sector for developmen­t of infrastruc­ture that comes with hosting.

According to Rakgare, Botswana will positively benefit from hosting the tournament, saying that more than 10, 000 jobs will be created over a minimum of two years from the capital works that would have to be undertaken such as the constructi­on of stadiums. He said the rewards will be huge for Botswana despite the huge costs of hosting it, saying that the economy will receive a huge boost, stimulatin­g not just constructi­on but many other sectors such as tourism, trade and manufactur­ing.

For his part, the BID committee chairperso­n, Ashford Mamelodi said that The Bid Committee is more than satisfied with the Bid Book and it was submitted ahead of the deadline on the 23rd of May. “The bid book production has been nothing short of amazing, For Ruben Reddy Architects to pull enough resources to complete the bid document within one month, has been amazing and for that we are certain than Botswana stands a good chance of winning the Bid,” Mamelodi mentioned. He said that the committee will now shift focus to lobbying the CAF executive committee members and pushing for investment in the project by the private sector. “CAF will start inspection anytime from 1 June to all the bidding countries,” he said.
