- Naledi Lemogang

Jwaneng Galaxy Football Club has denied allegations that the Jwaneng mine is considering ending its support for the team. The club emphasized the strong relationship it has with the mine and stressed that they are still going strong.

Rumors have been circulating that the Jwaneng mine will stop supporting Jwaneng Galaxy at the end of the season. However, the Media and Marketing Manager of Jwaneng Galaxy, Tankiso Morake clarified that such a decision could not be made overnight, given the huge investment and progress that the mine has made in the team. He emphasized the importance of the team to the mine and the local community.

Morake said that it would be impossible for the mine to abandon the team as easily as rumors suggest. He pointed out that the mine is a large organization that takes its ethical standards seriously. Supporting the team is more than just financial investment.

“Jwaneng mine recognizes that this is not just about Jwaneng Galaxy, it’s about the Jwaneng community and the area as a whole. It’s not possible for the mine to abandon this project, which is making a positive impact and fulfilling its vision.

People are spreading rumors in order to gain attention, but in doing so, they are harming the reputations of others,” Morake said.

“The Jwaneng Mine partnership with Jwaneng Galaxy FC is strong and straightforward. When the mine joined forces with the team, they stated their desire to make Jwaneng area a hub for sports, where people wouldn’t have to travel long distances to watch games. Therefore our relationship is healthy and growing stronger every day,” he added.

Morake reassured the team’s stakeholders that the mine is not abandoning the team and expressed gratitude to the team’s partners and sponsors.

He stressed that the project to support the team is a long- term commitment and that it would not be possible to terminate it overnight, given the size and complexity of the organization. He emphasized that the mine is committed to the success of the team.

Jwaneng Galaxy’s recent run in the CAF Champions League has been impressive, and while they were knocked out in the group stage, they are currently on top of the Botswana Premier League table with 44 points after 17 matches. They are contenders for the league title, and their next match is against Nico United on March 29.
