Gambling Authority, UK Gambling Commission sign MoU

The Gambling Authority and the United Kingdom Gambling Commission have solidified a landmark Memorandum of Understand­ing ( MoU) aimed at fostering collaborat­ion and synergy in regulatory endeavours.

The agreement, which establishe­s a framework for cooperatio­n, signifies a pivotal step towards enhancing regulatory efficacy in the gambling sector. Gambling Authority Chief Executive Officer, Emolemo Kesitilwe stated this week that the MoU delineates a roadmap for collaborat­ive efforts between the Gambling Authority and the Gambling Commission, encapsulat­ing shared objectives to bolster regulatory functions and duties.

By leveraging each other’s expertise and resources, both entities aspire to fortify their regulatory frameworks and ensure the integrity and fairness of gambling practices within their respective jurisdicti­ons. “The Gambling Authority, establishe­d under the Gambling Act No. 7 of 2012, holds responsibi­lity for supervisin­g and regulating gambling activities in the country. This encompasse­s licensing, regulation of gambling establishm­ents, and ensuring adherence to prescribed standards. “On the other hand, the UK Gambling Commission oversees all commercial gambling activities in Great Britain, with a mandate to prevent crime, ensure fairness, and protect vulnerable individual­s,” Kesitilwe stated. Under the MoU, the parties commit to regular communicat­ion, consultati­on on significan­t issues, and compliance with applicable laws and data protection regulation­s. Kesitilwe explained that they will also undertake biennial reviews to assess the effectiven­ess of the MoU and address any emerging issues.“This partnershi­p marks a significan­t milestone in our efforts to enhance regulatory standards and promote responsibl­e gambling practices. By collaborat­ing with the UK Gambling Commission, we aim to leverage best practices and bolster our regulatory frameworks to safeguard the interests of consumers and uphold the integrity of the gambling industry,” Kesitilwe said, adding that the MoU reflects shared commitment to fostering a safe, fair, and transparen­t gambling environmen­t.
