Gambling Authority, UK Gambling Commission sign MoU
The Gambling Authority and the United Kingdom Gambling Commission have solidified a landmark Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) aimed at fostering collaboration and synergy in regulatory endeavours.
The agreement, which establishes a framework for cooperation, signifies a pivotal step towards enhancing regulatory efficacy in the gambling sector. Gambling Authority Chief Executive Officer, Emolemo Kesitilwe stated this week that the MoU delineates a roadmap for collaborative efforts between the Gambling Authority and the Gambling Commission, encapsulating shared objectives to bolster regulatory functions and duties.
By leveraging each other’s expertise and resources, both entities aspire to fortify their regulatory frameworks and ensure the integrity and fairness of gambling practices within their respective jurisdictions. “The Gambling Authority, established under the Gambling Act No. 7 of 2012, holds responsibility for supervising and regulating gambling activities in the country. This encompasses licensing, regulation of gambling establishments, and ensuring adherence to prescribed standards. “On the other hand, the UK Gambling Commission oversees all commercial gambling activities in Great Britain, with a mandate to prevent crime, ensure fairness, and protect vulnerable individuals,” Kesitilwe stated. Under the MoU, the parties commit to regular communication, consultation on significant issues, and compliance with applicable laws and data protection regulations. Kesitilwe explained that they will also undertake biennial reviews to assess the effectiveness of the MoU and address any emerging issues.“This partnership marks a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance regulatory standards and promote responsible gambling practices. By collaborating with the UK Gambling Commission, we aim to leverage best practices and bolster our regulatory frameworks to safeguard the interests of consumers and uphold the integrity of the gambling industry,” Kesitilwe said, adding that the MoU reflects shared commitment to fostering a safe, fair, and transparent gambling environment.
