3Net aims to revolutionise Botswana ISP space

3 Net, the emerging internet service provider, is buoyant that, in the medium to long term, they will have revolutionised the technology offering landscape in the country. This is according to Sidney Leina, the company’s General Manager, adding that ‘ our prudent and endless efforts to do more will propel us to the future we envision The Gaborone- based company, which was only formed in 2020, has partnered with the largest internet network provider in the country BOFINET, which is now hosting most of its services. “This gives us and our customers a peace of mind as our internet reliability and speeds meet the 99.9percent SLA ( Service Level Agreement) BOFINET has promised,” explained Leina, who is a graduate of Teeside University. BOFINET is the government- owned wholesale provider of national and international telecommunication infrastructure. 3Net, which is 100 percent citizen and youth- owned, offers both residential and commercial internet. “Since we are more inclined to finternet provision, our focal point has been business large and small, but we also extend our services to homes with both fibre and wireless internet,” he stressed. Botswana, which has a population of just over 2.5 million is awash with internet services providers, some of those foreign- owned. As a new kid on the block, what set apart 3Net from established brands? “3Net’s contribution to the industry is through very simple factors that the competitors have been missing for quite some time, these are, unmatched customer service, no contract and internet provided through a redundant infrastructure thus adhering to the service level agreement and minimising downtime,” explained a confident Leina, who has in the past worked for Botho University. At this stage, the company is well aware that it will take some time to claim a sizeable market share within the cutthroat industry. “

We are relatively new in the market and with that we cannot claim to hold significant market share, but our customer base and inquiries we attract shows the open market to be exploited,” he stressed. Nonetheless, the company believes it offers competitive prices compared to other players. “We want to believe our pricing and packages are competitive and we wake up every- day with an intention to provide more bandwidth and better service at competitive prices not only in the country but globally, yes with efforts from all players in this industry,” he said confidently. Furthermore, the firm will continue to explore opportunities and collaborations in the sector.

“We have always been open to partnerships or collaborations with any company that brings positive change to the provision of internet to Batswana. We have a couple of these partnerships and continue to be open for more,” he disclosed. The company currently employs 8 people, with intent to hire more as business picks up. 3Net has big plans for the Botswana market. “We are a youth based company and want to reach heights of innovative ISP globally. Internet packages that are fused with TV ( streaming) and phone is what we are heading towards,” he concluded.
