Charl Stols “One of my favourite birds to pho­to­graph on the river is the African ja­cana.

“The Chobe’s ex­ten­sive wet­lands pro­vide the per­fect breed­ing ground for ja­canas. They feed on aquatic in­sects and lar­vae found on water lily pads.

“To take this photo, I sat on the floor of the boat so I could be at eye-level with the bird. This makes the photo more in­ti­mate.”
