Systems appoint ‘Wire’

- KABELO BORANABI

Security Systems have agreed terms with Botswana Football Association (BFA) target Kaelo ‘ Wire’ Kaelo for head coach role. Kaelo has been on the radar of the BFA for a while now, as he was targeted for the technical director (TD) role at the Lekidi Football Association.

Systems have since moved swiftly to rope in the well-travelled coach as he returns to the club after seven years.

‘ Wire’ piped former BR Highlanders coach Blessing Moyo, Gaborone United development coach, Philemon Makwengwe and Under-20 trainer, Keitumetse ‘Pio’ Paul to the post that has been vacant since the departure of

Daniel ‘Chico’ Nare in July.

“We have had interviews with a number of coaches in Botswana.

Amongst them is Blessing Moyo who was previously at BR (Highlanders), Pio

Paul and Philemon Makwengwe,” Systems’ public relations officer, Zolani

Kraai told Mmegi Sport on

Thursday.

“These were the four coaches who were short listed for interviews.

Afte A f ter r the assessment and the interviews, the Security Systems XI executive committee has decided to appoint Kaelo as the new coach. So he will be our head coach for the upcoming season.”

‘ Wire’ returns to the Tlokweng-based club in search of better in fortunes. In his first stint he guided the team to their maiden elite league promotion in 2012.

However, he suffered heartbreak after the club was expelled from the national leagues after failing to pay affiliation fees with the BFA.

Last season, the team finished fourth just two points behind champions, Jwaneng Galaxy, their highest finish since gaining promotion in 2016.

Kaelo’s appointment at Systems does not rule out of the BFA TD role. ‘ Wire’ was regarded as a front-runner for the job after recommendations from the previous TD, Serame Letsoaka. Former FC Satmos coach, Duncan Tshegofatso and Paul remain in contention.
