Morwaotsil­e releases first folklore album

Folklore singer and guitarist, Pontsho Morwaotsil­e from Boatlaname village in Kweneng district recently dropped his first album titled Pina e. The album has five tracks namely; Ke tswa ga mme, Letametu, Peba di le tharo, Pina e, Boatlaname and Selemela. In an interview with Arts & Culture, Morwaotsil­e said he started his music career under the indigenous folklore genre at a teen stage taking part in constituen­cy arts competitio­n.

He also said he was inspired by the folklore music legends like the likes of Stampore and how he plays the guitar.

“This is the first album in my career. My songs were inspired by daily life experience­s. Pina e album was recorded at Touch Records and I wrote all the my songs.

The album is available online on Bemastore.

We do virtual online promotions every monthend through social media,” he said.

Morwaotsil­e added that his music content arrangemen­t, story telling, unique rhythm, indigenous folklore content and new style of playing the guitar makes his music stand out from his colleagues in the industry. However, he pointed out that he was facing challenges such as lack of funds to record and produce his album and lack of access to the market. He also pointed

out that despite those challenges, he was thankful for the few achievemen­ts he scored such as scooping position one in the Constituen­cy

Arts Competitio­ns twice. Furthermor­e, Morwaotsil­e explained that it was hard and tricky to penetrate the local music industry more especially for new artistes. He, however said in the meantime he uses social media to attract both local and internatio­nal fans.
