Waone Tladi (20) of Gabane was this past weekend crowned Miss Independence Kgatleng (MIK) at an event held at Rasesa Lodge. Post coronation, Tladi revealed that MIK has been her biggest breakthrough because she has gained experience and confidence in her walking, presentation and public speaking skills.

“It was a rollercoaster ride because there was a point I tripped and almost lost faith but I tried my best to keep composure until the very end. The pageant’s aim is to go national and indeed this year we made sure we open the entry to each and every Motswana, not just Kgatleng natives,” explained pageant director Lebopo

Bulayani.

She could not stop talking about her gratitude at the Kgatleng leaders, being the police, office of the district commissioner and council chairperson who graced the event and keep supporting this youth development organisation every year.

“We have to include everyone from the rich to the poor; black and white, the able bodied and those living with disability in all we do. We must support the boychild as much as the girl-child and promote the male-child as much as the female-child and include everyone in order to promote a gateway of success,” she added.

The judges had a tough job as all the top three ladies nailed their questions but at the end of the day, there had to be only one winner. The first and second princess titles went to Jessica Lekoape from Mochudi and Botho Ramphaleng. Chief Judge and former Miss Botswana, Moitshepi Ellias, applauded the pageant organisers for a job well done in grooming the ladies.

She admitted that indeed it was hard for them to choose the winner as all the ladies deserved the crown.

The pageant assistant director, Luthando Ratau said the event would not have been a success if it was not for their sponsors such as Rasesa Lodge, Clicks Pharmacy, Space Direct Wines, Insurance Training Institute and Zipporah Trust, amongst others. The winner walked away with a scholarship from Insurance Training Institute and a hamper from Clicks Pharmacy in Pilane.
