MINING ENGINEER
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Mining Superintendent, the Mining Engineer will be responsible for monitoring and assessing the works undertaken by the contractor and ensuring compliance of these works to the Khoemacau specifications as set out in the contract and work assigned to the contractor. The position is also responsible for enforcing compliance to Botswana mining laws and Khoemacau safety standards and procedures.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will be responsible for:
Identifying conditions and behaviours that pose a risk to health and safety of personnel or potential damage to equipment or infrastructure and take appropriate preventative measures
Creating an environment that is conducive to meeting Khoemacau Safety Health Environment and Community standards and enhance safety behaviours.
Providing recommendations for approval/rejection of delays to the Production Superintendent.
Dealing with internal departments and external vendors on matters such as cost, performance, progress assessment, payments, reporting, trends, and change orders.
Ensuring compliance by the contractor with respect to quality, time and cost.
Ensuring approved drawings, design plans, supplier information and associated documentation are executed as per design by the contractor.
Implementing audit protocols and checks.
Reconciling actual work versus the approved designs and implementing measures to ensure compliance.
Ensuring compliance with all legal frameworks and company standards. Adhering to document control protocols with respect to data storage, mine plans, engineering drawings, and related documents for the corridor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
Bachelor of Engineering or Mining Engineering or other relevant technical qualification.
10+ years relevant experience including in the operational and technical fields.
6+ years’ experience in working in underground mechanised operations with increasing responsibilities.
Experience in the mine planning (design and scheduling), ventilation, paste fill, infrastructure projects, and geotechnical fields within an underground hard rock mining environment.
A good level of understanding and use of MS Office tools.
Proven contractor management skills.
Registration as a Professional Engineer is required.
A valid class B driver’s license is essential for both positions.
