FRANCISTOWN: Jwaneng Galaxy assistant coach, Oris Boyo Radipotsane will be honoured for his contribution to the game at his home village, Pilikwe next month.

Radipotsane will be honoured on November 6, a day after his wedding. Pilikwe United chairperson, Fobby Radipotsane said after consultation with various stakeholders in the village, the club decided to name its ground after Oris as one way of honouring him for his contribution to football.

The ground is popular for hosting notable sports activities in the village. “Oris is the first player to play in the elite league in the village.

He is also one of the most successful players to have ever come out of this village, which is why we believe that he deserves to be honoured. From November 6, the Pilikwe United ground will now be called Oris Radipotsane Sports Complex.

We wanted to honour him while he is still alive,” Radipotsane told Mmegi Sport. Radipotsane said village leaders and key stakeholders will also be part of the event.

The ceremony will be held a day after Oris’ wedding, which will also be in Pilikwe. “We will not only be unveiling the name. Inside the sports complex, there will be a board displaying details about Radipotsane’s notable achievements during his playing and coaching career. When the younger players see what he has achieved they will be inspired to take their football seriously and emulate or surpass what he has achieved.” Oris’ playing career spanned more than a decade.

He is also among the most decorated players that the country has ever produced. The former Zebras assistant coach played for sides such as Township Rollers and Extension Gunners. He lifted the league six times between 1981 and 1987 while at Township Rollers.

He also won the Mainstay and Lion Cup during his fruitful stay at Popa. In his decorated career, Oris also captained the national team between 1982 and 1987. As a coach, Oris guided Motlakase to the Premier League in 2012.

Prior to that he had guided the team to the Coca Cola Cup final. He has also in the past served in the technical team of several junior national teams and the senior national team on several occasions. Oris also helped Galaxy to win promotion to the elite league during the 2014-2015 season.
