#KgosiArrest: In pictures
Mmegi photojournalist THALEFANG CHARLES was on Monday at the Village Magistrate’s Court when former intelligence boss, Isaac Kgosi was arraigned in yet another dramatic appearance by the once feared top spy
Apolice BMW with sirens blowing, speeding through Maratadiba Road made a sharp violent right turn after the Village Magistrate’s Court. The car then swiftly moved to block traffic on Maratadiba. Seconds later, four more sportscars with sirens and private numberplates added to the dramatic arrival. It is a black Chevrolet Lumina SS, black Subaru, another Lumina SS white and a white BMW. They all did a choreographed reverse parking by the Court’s east entrance reserved for the accused persons in custody. From all the vehicles emerged plainclothes men, masked up in dark sunglasses. They ordered one man at the back of the Subaru to remain inside. That is how the former intelligence chief, Isaac Kgosi arrived in court on Monday morning.
When Kgosi was finally pulled out from the Subaru, wearing grey golf-shirt, black Adidas track pants and flip-flops, holding a small toilet bag, he was not amused by the whole scene. He shrugged off the cameras as he was taken inside the court premises. Inside the premises, Kgosi demanded to see his lawyer. As the media was busy live broadcasting the unfolding events, the former spy boss pleaded with whoever could listen to have his lawyer brought forward. He narrated the events of his arrest.
Kgosi blew hot and cold and showed both some defiance and surrender throughout his ordeal. He was restless. At times he looked down and out. And then he would rise and look indifferent. He also appeared to be in back pains. He could not sit properly. He refused to go inside the courtroom without his lawyer and charge sheet until the lawyers arrived.
His visible security detail were three men. They applied necessary force when they felt like it. Like when Kgosi was brought water by one of the people at court and one of the agents, the one the media dubbed ‘Alshaabab’ because of his headgear, confiscated the water in yet another dramatic scene that nearly turned violent. When he finally got bail on Wednesday, it was the Alshaabab agent who gave Kgosi a shoulder to lean on when they went down the court staircase.
Kgosi has been making dramatic arrivals at courts ever since he was first arrested in January, 15, 2019 at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport away to the Broadhurst Magistrate’s Court.
