Legends In Concert back
After a two-year blackout, mature revelers will finally get to dust off their dancing shoes as the famous Legends In Concert music festival returns. Known for hosting legendary kwaito artists, the music show is scheduled for November 26, with the organisers labelling it “the festive season opener”.
This time around, the show pits legendary South African kwaito musicians Mdu Masilela and Alaska against Botswana’s own T.H.A.B.O and Exodus. The event will be held at the Notwane Lifestyle Club in Gaborone.
South African self-proclaimed King of Kwaito, Arthur Mafokate, will perform as a guest. Arthur’s daughter, DJ Owani will also share the stage with Doms, Ms Lau’ra and Lefatshe who will also get the chance to mesmerise fans on the decks for the night.
It will be Dj Owami Mafokate’s first show in Botswana. She was recently awarded the Best Amapiano Female DJ Act during the first Amapiano awards ceremony in South Africa.
Speaking to Arts & Culture, festival organiser
and music promoter, Lekopnye ‘Lecco’ Kenosi of Leccotainment Promotions said this is another show not to be missed. Kenosi said it was time for the mature revelers to “dance the night
away with the legends”. “People wanted a kwaito throw back. They want to dance after almost two years staying home because of COVID-19 restrictions. I had to bring the best among the best to give our people what they want and deserve,” he said. As it is normally the case, the organiser has struck a balance in terms of locals and international performers in the line-up.
“I usually try to balance them but there is no issue at all. The line-up is rich with talent from Alaska, Mdu, T.H.A.B.O, Exodus, to Owami Mafokate, Ms Lau’ra and other local DJ’s. There will be more surprises. Kwaito is back by popular demand,” he added.
He also said the show will be done in line with the safety protocols outlined by government to fight the spread of COVID-19. He also said they will prioritise on security to continue the good image associated with the Legends In Concert festivals, which has recorded no criminal incidents in the past.
“Security at our shows is number one priority. We never had any incidents in our previous shows as we have guards from inside to the parking lot”. He explained that they will also donate part of the proceeds to charity, as it has been the norm since the Legends In Concert festivals started. Tickets for the show sell at P250 early bird and will be available at Liquoramas and Webticket Spar.
