Kings Bar Cow Feast returns
Kings Bar in Thamaga was the place for one to be this past Sunday as multitudes thronged the popular drinking hole for its Annual Cow Feast celebration, themed an All White Affair.
The event, which returned amid much pomp and vibe for its 14th anniversary following a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, is held as a wrap up of the year to appreciate loyal customers and give them an opportunity to celebrate together.
Coupled with the hype around the World Cup final match between France and Argentina, the event turned out to be a grand occasion as patrons feasted on meals while listening to the soothing jazz melodies and watching the game.
Indeed Christmas had come early for villagers as they thronged the place in large numbers to get a share of the slaughtered beast. Deejays Tsix, Mex, Spekere and many more others kept the crowd entertained throughout the event on the turntables.
In an interview with Arts & Culture, the bar owner, Mmasetswana Molapele explained that the social event has become a tradition for the people of Thamaga. She also said the activities of the day commenced in the morning with social games (football).
The teams that participated this year include Kaizer Chiefs Kuruman Branch supporters and Mogobagoba Social Club. “We have hosted this event for the past 14 years and after missing out in the past two years due to COVID-19, you can see that the people of Thamaga are happy for its return.
They are always looking forward to it. This is just a celebration with the customers and to say thank you for the contribution they have made to this business over the course of the year,” she said. She explained that the event has become more than just a social event as it now includes the charity aspect.
“Over the years we have shared the little that we make by also donating food hampers to the needy. Right now we took it a notch higher as we want to connect electricity for one needy member of the society. With the help of the teams that participated in this year’s edition, we have managed to raise funds to pay for electricity connection and we expect it to be done and handed over at least by March,” she added.
For his part, one of the event organisers, DJ Tsix said the Cow Feast was preceded by Pre-Party Celebrations, which was held Saturday evening. The event featured DJs such as Ancestral Rituals, Paul Ryan, Romeo Tha Medley and DJ Obza and other several locals. The Pre-Party was held as an appetiser for the main event.
