Ndowa makes living through lense
While many people crack their minds after failing to complete varsity, it was easy for Realeboga Ndowa who immediately went into photography after the experience.
Ndowa revealed to Arts & Culture that his desire to graduate in Creative Multimedia was cut short due to financial constraints. He was studying at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Gaborone as a self-sponsored student. He said due to lack of funds, he had to quit school after his second year at the university.
Though Ndowa failed to complete his studies, he said he did not for any moment think hard about what to do next. He said the creative side in him gave him hope that he will succeed in something. Ndowa revealed that his love for photography, which dates back to 2017, was immediately awakened. “I got to love photography more during my first year in varsity at the Limkokowing University and I used to take pictures in church.
By the time I quit school, I had deeply fallen in love with photography,” Ndowa said.
After realising the great potential he has in photography, Ndowa said he then established his own photography business called ‘ReaStrive Photography Bw’.
“I was always inspired to be a photographer and I am now the CEO and the man behind ReaStrive Photography Bw,” Ndowa said. Although he does it all, Ndowa says he is more into wedding photography. “I am more of a wedding and event photographer but sometimes I can do all types of photography depending on what the client wants,” he explained. Talking about what makes him a good photographer of note, Ndowa explained that he is mainly driven by passion and not money. He stated that his line of work demands one to be more passionate than being into money.
With many people keen to have their memories captured and kept for the future, Ndowa said photography has emerged as one of the booming businesses young people should venture into.
“Photography is a profitable career and that’s the honest truth and it mostly depends on how you play your cards. Just be unique to other photographers, stand out and let your work speak volumes for yourself,” he said.
However, he said there are also challenges along the way. “We have challenges. We buy expensive equipment but when it comes to pricing you might not be lucky at times because some clients don’t want to pay what you charge while others don’t pay at all,” Ndowa noted with concern.
But Ndowa indicated that aspiring photographers should not be discouraged to venture into photography as it is a fruitful business.
