Ponka launches ‘Selo’ album
Local disco queen, Lebang Baipidi also famously known as Ponka, will launch her recently released album at Sport Zone Bar in Metsimotlhabe on May 20, 2023. In an interview with Arts & Culture, Ponka said she decided to give her fans a taste of her new album titled ‘Selo’, which has seemingly become a hit among her fans. As a way of celebrating her success, the disco queen has included other local artists from different music genres in her event.
She disclosed that she has invited artists from different categories such as traditional music, Disco, House Kwasa, Rhumba and many more. She said she wanted to create diversity for revellers during the show.
“I have included other artists from different genres so that we can come together and get sponsors. It is also high time we stand as disco artists and stop isolating. Let’s collaborate with other genres and take our music to the public. We also urge local music promoters to book us. Disco music plays an important impact in people’s lives. It has good messages,” she said. Some of the artists who will be perform at the event include Fresh Les, Oscar Chakabuya, Rocking Stars, Skelem Key, Khoza Mkhozeni, Zangwana, Makholoskop, Nkamozuki, Animals, Mactivators, Lekwete Captain and SUA Pan.
However, Ponka said they are not selling stalls adding that they will not allow cooler boxes at the event. She said security will be tight. She appealed for sponsorships saying they are experiencing financial challenges in preparing for the event. She also said it was initially hard to find a venue for her show but was grateful to Fresh Lesokwane for assisting them find one. She called upon fellow artists to unite and grow the local music industry. The event’s Mcee will be Mc Pass P.
