Botswana Chamber of Mines praises ACEB’s historic achievement Okavango River Bridge project scoops award
The consulting engineering industry is key to Botswana's development, which since independence, has seen the country's phenomenal transformation from a poor to middle income economy.
The industry's integral role in Botswana's development has seen the construction of numerous and award-winning multi-million Pula projects that include schools, mines, hospitals, bridges, roads, rail networks, dams, water and wastewater schemes, telecommunications networks and electrical power distribution networks.
The inaugural Association of Consulting Engineers Botswana (ACEB) Engineering Excellence Awards are a climax of hard work as the industry propels Botswana forward.
Addressing scores of delegates during the awards night, the guest speaker and Chief Executive Ofcer of the Botswana Chamber of Mines, Engineer Charles Siwawa lauded ACEB for successfully organising the event, and thanked the industry at large for the passionate work of transforming Botswana through the unique designs evident across the country's landscape.
Eng. Siwawa said this is a driver for ACEB members to look outside Botswana for even more challenging and lucrative mega projects.
“As we succeed in Botswana, we know that the engineering space is perhaps limited by the size of the population in this country, and, therefore, our ability to gain experience would be more concomitant in our approach to work and will allow us to participate in jobs outside Botswana,” Eng. Siwawa said.
Speaking at the same auspicious event, the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) Registrar and a member of the panel of judges for the ACEB Awards, Engineer Dennis Olaotse lauded the ACEB team that compiled the awards criteria in a manner that made the panel's work easier.
ACEB CEO, Eng. Lillian Mosimaneotsile, ACEB immediate past president, Eng. Tebogo Tebogo
and ACEB past president Eng. Gaonyatsege Kwakwa handed over the awards to ACEB member companies and individuals who excelled in various categories.
ACEB Vice President, Eng. Kenne Botshologile lauded Botswana's engineers for their seless contribution to national development. “The engineer by design is a solution provider,” Botshologile said, adding that risks must be taken in ensuring that desired goals are achieved.
ACEB has a growing membership of consulting engineering rms whose work cuts across all aspects of the industry and speaks to the Botswana government's national development drive that has consistently shaped Botswana's economic transformation.
