- NNASARETHA KGAMANYANE Correspondent

Thero Masisi, whose stage name is Zacci WaBantwana, has released a new single dubbed Batswana Ke Kopa Skeem. The song, which he dropped on April 17, is his introduction to the music industry.

In an interview with Arts&Culture, the young artist said the song is asking Batswana to allow him to play his role in the music industry as a way of selling his brand and introducing his presence in the music industry. He further stated that in the song, he mentions the late Kwaito legend Thabo ‘Mapetla’ Ntirang, Diphetogo ‘Dipsy’ Selolwane and Pontsho Moloi.

He added that he mentioned some of the big football teams in the country like Extension Gunners and Township Rollers in the verses as a way to reminisce about the old times when Botswana football had good support hence him asking the same thing from the nation for all the genuine love and support.

He said the song is on YouTube Music, Dezzer, Spotify and Apple Music, adding that his management team had also submitted it to all radio stations for airplay. “This will be my debut single but I have also got a song in the vault with Girly and Jackalass Onetym titled Dubula. I started having a love for music ever since I was a 12-year-old but never took it seriously. I then started playing around in the studio and God willing, I probably have what it takes to become a good musician. Funny enough, my manager, Leago Mogano, runs a media company known as Swervo Visuals which mainly does marketing, management services and branding,” he said.

He added that his manager went to his house a few months back and started taking good care of him as he handles almost everything in terms of the administration side. He said all he did was go into the studio and record. Mogano brought him a producer known as Letitburn and they came with all the equipment needed to produce the song. Furthermore, he pointed out that the song marked his first year as a professional artist. Since he is still new in the entertainment industry, Zacci WaBantwana, said he has not faced any challenges. Moreover, he pointed out that being able to work with Girly and her being an older sister paved the way for him as it showed him certain things about the music industry and how it works. “I genuinely take every day as it comes, so I believe in the next few years, I will not be in the same place if the stars align. I know that I will be in a better position than I am at right now. To all the younger artists, I would say always have faith in yourself. Nothing in life comes easy and the same rules apply to anything you do; nothing is about talent or coincidence. It is about hard work and dedication; nothing in life ever comes easy. I would like to ask the public for their support,” he ended.
