Raped his 5-year old niece at knife point

- BY SUN REPORTER ARRESTED AGAIN: Onkabetse Letshwenyo of Tonota

Two-time rape suspect Onkabetse Letshwenyo, 32, of Tonota was back in court this past Monday, this time slapped with a fresh charge of assault.

He allegedly beat up his girlfriend after a drinking spree on Friday night when he demanded sex from the lady but she refused.

According to the officer in charge of Crime, Criminal Investigation Department ( CID) Karabo Kgaodi, the lady complained that her abuser had gone drinking and came to her house late at night, roughly demanding sex.

When she refused, Letshwenyo allegedly went on to beat her up without any provocation. Kgaodi noted that from Letshwenyo’s alleged utterances, it is clear all he wanted was to sleep with the woman.

He expressed worry at the man’s behaviour saying there is already a traceable pattern. He confirmed that the man has two pending rape cases before court and both linked to alcohol.

In May 2019, Letshwenyo allegedly raped a 42-year-old woman after yet another binge drinking night.

On the day, Letshwenyo allegedly offered to walk the lady home suggesting that it was ‘unsafe’ for her to walk alone. He then turned a monster on her allegedly forcing himself on the woman.

Four months later, he is alleged to have gone on to molest his five-year-old niece. He arrived home allegedly drunk that day, hurling insults and harassing the family.

The family fled for dear life, forgetting that the baby was sleeping in one of the rooms. Once all alone, Letshwenyo is alleged to have snuck up on the innocent baby and defiled her.

When reached, the mother who had left her child under the care of the family said her heart breaks every time she looks at her baby.

She is disgusted by what Letshwenyo did, a man who was supposed to be an uncle to her daughter found pleasure between the legs of a minor.

What hurts her most is that the man allegedly held a knife to her baby’s throat when raping her. She cannot begin to imagine the trauma he caused her child.

“I thought he was still in police custody but I bumped into him a few days back and he unashamedly called out my name. I badly wanted to punch his face,” she said.

The mother went on to explain that Letshwenyo’s behaviour has caused divisions in the family and they no longer regard him as one of their own.

What surprises her is how the man is still roaming the streets freely. She wishes he could be locked up for good.

Kgaodi explained that Letshwenyo was given conditional bail a month ago. He was locked up last year over fear that his presence might bring more harm than good to the family and the child.

He added that they have also completed investigations on the case in which Letshwenyo is alleged to have raped a 42-year-old woman and that he will soon be arraigned before court.

Meanwhile another family member Nametso Letshwenyo said she also suffered head injuries after Letshwenyo harassed and battered her. He described him as a disrespectful brat that is very abusive to both women and men.

“We are fed up, the police need to deal with him, he at one point threatened to wipe off the entire family. We live in fear because we don’t know what terror he will unleash as he seemingly hates us,” she said.
