will resume. I’m okay with the arrangement of returning home since it will give me a chance to rest and spend time with my family,” she said.

Further, the 26 year old Etsha native indicated that despite her contract suspension, her club has been taking care of her; buying foodstuffs, rent and facilitating her safe return home. “My club has been very helpful all this time so I can’t really complain. Even at Kutlwano Volleyball Club they have been checking up on me even though distance was a barrier,” shared Kamberuka.

Kamberuka who is a member of the senior women’s national team secured the professional contract with Kigali Volleyball club early this year in January. She was spotted by the Rwandan side during a short stint in Rwanda while Team Botswana was engaged in a training camp in Kigali for two weeks prior to the Africa Olympic qualifiers in Cameroon.

“Right now what is important is life and safety, I’m not worried that the contract might be terminated. That will depend on the situation at hand, if COVID-19 ends then I will return to Kigali but if it continues then I won’t force it because my life is important and comes before everything. But my team told me that when the situation normalizes I will return,” said Kamberuka, when quizzed if she is not worried that the club might terminate her contract if the pandemic continues to torment the world for long.

Kamberuka becomes the second professional volleyball player to have returned home following Igobe Sikuku‘s return, also due to COVID-19.Sikuku plays for Sahel Sporting Club in Kuwait and by the time COVID - 19 put everything to a halt he had played three national league games and two practice matches.

Meanwhile, the duo of Gaoleseletse Gasekgonwe and Tshiamo Chakalisa who play for University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies Volleyball Club (UTB) in Rwanda are also expected to arrive in a few weeks’ time provided logistics go well.
