Some people would say coaches are simply glorified psychologists, listening to the problems and deficiencies of people? What would you say? Is there a difference between coaching and counselling?

Difference is that coaching focuses on the clients potential, strengths and skills to maximize fulfillment in life and work and helps client uncover these solutions, whereas psychology seeks to understand what constitutes an optimal lifestyle and uses research based interventions to help people live pleasant and meaningful lives. But both emphasize personal and professional growth and contribute to an individual’s self awareness so that they may live a fulfilled life. Counseling delves into the past of an individual, to help in making the present better.

Tell us a bit about the roots of coaching?

Life coaching started in the 1980’s by Thomas Leonard when he realized his clients needed more from him than just tips on financial intelligence.

What is it like being a life coach and how does this relate with an individuals’ overall health and wellness? What made you decide to become a life coach?

Being a life coach is fulfilling in the sense that you get to see a client get motivated, build confidence and live the life one has always wanted. It is based on the needs and values and priorities of an individual therefore assisting them to make good choices that foster a healthy lifestyle

But to add on to that I wanted meaning to life after I lost my niece who committed suicide, I then sought to do Logotherapy, which addresses tragic issues of life, we all have a part in wrongdoing, failure and dying which is our share of tragedy.I had to find meaning or else to be filled with negativity and despair. Knowing all of this we become powerful instruments of healing and sources of inspiration, encouragement and blessing to others. Life coaching then became a big plus because now I had a passion for self – development and wanted to transfer this passion to others.

Can you tell us why coaching is a good investment? Does a coach sort out my life for me and what’s their role exactly?

It is a good investment for one to have a Life Coach because people always seek to improve themselves, grow spiritually, personally and professionally. A life coach will assist one “sort” their life by helping them overcome obstacles and make changes in their life to achieve goals

How does someone go about finding and hiring the right coach? What are the pitfalls?

Knowing your life coach has had experience helping people achieve goals and outcomes to the one you desire is important. Remember coaching of any kind is very personal and should be tailored to meet your goals.

Alternately, what should an individual expect from a coaching program? And what tools do coaches use?

Expect to become more self-reliant, take responsibility for your actions and commitment, learn to engage your mind to focus on tapping into this potential and creating new life changing choices and discover your utmost inconceivable potential.

Coaches do not give clients a list to tick or set of rules to follow but rather they help clients discover their own motives and goals and only aid them to find the best path .
