Man, 45, hacks ex-lover with axe
A 45-year-old man is remanded in custody after allegedly murdering his 46-year-old ex-girlfriend in Mokubilo Village in the early hours of Sunday.
Letlhakane Police Station Commander Superintendent Michael Maphephu said the incident was reported by the deceased’s mother.
He said that the suspect used an axe to murder his lover. According to the police chief, the suspect visited the woman this past weekend but added that they had not been in a relationship for a year. Mphephu said the two had a misunderstanding in front of their eight (8)-year-old daughter. “When the daughter saw her father physically assaulting her mother, she shouted out for help from her grandmother who is their neighbour,” said Maphephu. Maphephu said when the granny arrived at the scene the deceased was lying in a pool of blood with an axe stuck on her head. The incident was then reported to the police and the suspect was arrested a few hours later. “Upon questioning, the suspect said they had a misunderstanding after the mother of his child went outside the house to stand with another man,” said Maphephu. Meanwhile, 14 rape cases were recorded in the month of September alone with the policing area of Letlhakane Police Station. Maphephu expressed concern at the escalating cases of rape, adding that this past Sunday a 28-yearold woman was raped in Phase1 ward while on her way back to her compound. The suspect is still on the run.
