DTEF said to be forcing admission of 14 undeserving students Students transferred from another tertiary health school

Tempers are flying high at Molepolole Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) with lecturers unhappy about the alleged admission of undeserving students at the school. Reliable sources indicate that about 14 students have been transferred from one local health insti

tution (name known to this publication) to IHS Molepolole. It is not clear what could have led to the students being taken out of that college to IHS, however, what worries lecturers there is that the students do not qualify for a place at any IHS institution in the first place.“We train personnel that go on to work in clinics and hospitals and that is one of the many reasons we have always been very selective with admission. We are shocked that the school has now bowed to admitting students with grades of EE or DD in Sciences or Mathematics to study here.”

What also shocks them is that the school is way past admission stage, with classes for the current semester having already begun two months ago. They added that IHS admission regulation prohibits admitting students after 21 days from the commencement of classes. All these they said, proved that something was very wrong.

When reached, Molepolole IHS Principal Agang Mookodi’s phone got disconnected immediately after this reporter introduced herself to her. Repeated attempts to reach her again proved futile as her phone rang unanswered.

Acting Director at IHS Curriculum Unit Senewa Mooko referred this publication to Department of Tertiary Education Funding (DTEF) saying she has no comment on the matter. “Speak to DTEF Director, I have no answers on the matter,” Mooko said.

DTEF Director Neo Sebolao was said to be held up in meetings. Meanwhile, the concerned lecturers are accusing IHS of being unfair on other applicants that were rejected yet they had performed way better at senior school compared to the 14 being imposed on them.

“They are not being fair, they are talking about DTEF ordering them to admit the 14 students at IHS and we wonder why DTEF is involved in this matter, their part is only financing not dictating to us who should be admitted,” they said.
