The Midweek Sun

Let’s all go back to the basics

-

A return to the basics is an admission of our fallibility. It is to admit that we are human, and as the maxim counsels, ‘to err is human’- we must verily acknowledge our limitations of what constitutes ‘life.’

As for me, I have tried to sift the extant of dogma – be it religious or intellectual – to deal directly with Nature that is the Cosmos and its array of wonders in my search for the meaning of Life!

I say wonders because Man can only discover what he finds already existing in the Universe. He cannot by himself create anything except to improve on what he finds in Nature to form something else from what pre-existed.

By this acknowledgement alone, we must indeed come to the full realisation that we are a part and parcel of Nature – created beings just like any other creature – whether physical or spiritual!

From this point of departure I challenge you my fellow beings to discuss the question, ‘Does Objective Truth exist?’

All of us view our world from our own prisms. And naturally these are influenced by our experiences. These experiences are borne out of lived realities. And these realities –from the cradle to the grave – determine the type of person we become post-life, or as some would say, our legacies!

But have you ever paused to think about this, that everything we know, we were taught by our pre-existence, and that our pre-existence are our forebears ad infinitum? If ever there is anything that anyone can claim to know it is not new, it afore-existed, for indeed there is absolutely nothing new under the Sun.

If this be my truth it follows then that objective truth can be equated to the creator of the cosmos, the one that named creatures, beings and objects in their magnificent array. Indeed that Infinite Source of Knowledge that gave me a Name, which name I did not contest, must be the objective truth.

This Source is not only of knowledge. It also imparts life. It is so powerful that it consummates the union of opposite sexes into one. And it is this one that multiplies to fill the earth. It subjugates the earth under the dominion of Man.

But when it finally desires to reconcile itself to its creation, in there not only will fallible Man find salvation, but also be reawakened to Objective Truth. Here is how: In a normal setting, no boy-child or girlchild gets taught, in the conventional sense, how to fall in love.

It is a natural chemistry between people designed for the preservation of the species. It goes this way – boy meets /sees girl and suddenly feels butterflies in the tummy or alternatively develops goose bumps all over the body.

This is a sign that a chemical reaction has been triggered, but it is not an end on its own, it must be accompanied by words and actions to bring its desired outcome to fruition. And mind you, when all this happens, there is no parent or guardian here to guide the process.

Soon this feeling blossoms into a full-blown relationship which may ultimately include sexual liaisons, and when the latter part happens, chances are that a baby will be born. That is how we all come into this world, except in instances where there is forced sexual intercourse, known as rape!

Any newborn has no experience of it s existence. It can only subconsciously, relate to its preexistence (a subject for another day). It learns by observation and finally by questioning its reality. Sadly at that early stage, it accepts, hook, line and sinker any explanation it is given without even a whimper.

But as it begins to form its own opinion out of the experiences of its lived realities, it begins to question dogmas, explanations, ideologies and all other isms. But let’s once again realise that the questioning is not done in a vacuum. There are people to ask, books to search, teachers and lecturers to engage.

But above all else, there is always one thing that stands predominant, unchanging and unwavering to be true defying time and space in its majesty, it is Nature, our Cosmos to which we are born and to which we return.

It is a Natural Mystic to which we cannot tell any lies or our sophisticated teachings.

So, I submit that let’s return to those Basics, let us hear the Voice of Nature as it blows its mysteries in the air we breathe. Let’s stop all these complications of a life of pretence, let’s see in each other a father and a mother, a brother and a sister so that we can come to the full realisation of Objective Truth.

Only when we discard our subjective knowledge, the untested truths that we’ve held on to dearly as gospel truth, shall we by subjecting ourselves to the Infinite Source of All Wisdom come to the full understanding that I am because You are.
