- BY KABELO GADISE

Losing a loved one is never an easy experience to deal with, so when King Freezy, who was born Mmoloki Nthokana, lost his younger sister Malebo Nthokona in a car accident, all hope was lost for the 26- year- old artist, who felt defeated. He said his dreams didn’t make sense without his biggest support system.

However, King Freezy has managed to recollect himself and deliver a masterpiece EP that pays tribute to her sister whose life was claimed by a fatal car accident this year. He said his sister passed on while he was still producing his second EP which was to be titled Ice Age 2. King Freezy worked with D-Nice, Chrome Hydrauliks, Seneo Loeto, The Great Marshell, Telvin Anderson, Ricky Jay, Theo J and Fella on the production of his second EP, which was released last Sunday on the day that was supposed to be Malebo’s birthday. Despite the emotional hurricane he encountered King Freezy had to be light and gather his strength, and release the EP in remembrance of his sister. “I lost my younger sister Malebo at a time I could never imagine, as she was my biggest fan, I saw it fit to pay tribute to her hence why I titled the EP Malebo, she supported me in my music career, my academics and my life in general,” he said.

King Freezy further said that the project goes further to appreciate many other people that have been present and making a massive impact in his life. “The project has a lot of appreciations and giving thanks to people who have been there for me when I was at my lowest,” he said. In the song titled ‘It’s okay’ Freezy thank his fans, who supported him when he failed to carry himself, and those who believed in him when he didn’t believe in himself. The lyrics go further to appropriate his sisters who has departed this world. “I pray that Modimo, gives me strength and the courage. There are too many kids, that I live to encourage, I got a - family to carry like a horse on a carriage. Rest in peace baby girl, you the reason why I done it,” goes his lyrics. King Freezy said the loss of his younger sister took his happiness away however he is fighting to make peace with it hence why he is using music to depict his sister’s impact. The EP was produced in three weeks and there was a lot of pressure to deliver the EP within a short period. “I had to push and ensure that it does not compromise on the quality of the song, and the lyrical content,” he added.
