- BY KEIKANTSE LESEMELA

Young entrepreneur, Lesego Mathuba i s considering the export market as his manufacturing company has gained significant market share locally.

His company, Yaweh Door Frames, specialises in manufacturing customised wooden doors, wooden door frames, photo frames, window frames and other wooden products. Mathuba told the Business Trend that he ventured into this business to reduce the imports of wood products. “I ventured into manufacturing business to close the market gap in the building materials. I realized that most doors are imported from South Africa but we are capable as Batswana to manufacture doors. I wanted to close the market gap.”

Compared to most retail shops, Mathuba highlighted that the quality of the doors is very strong and prices are affordable. He said before starting up he did a market research and decided to use strong durable wood at affordable prices for the local market.

“I did a market research and came up with the best designs using strong materials. “He supplies furniture retailers around Francistown area and also sells to individuals. Establishing the business was not a bed of roses. He said capital was the major challenge. Fortunately his Youth Development Fund ( YDF) was successful. “I bought machinery and some wood from South Africa and other neighboring countries.” Currently, he is working with seven other youth.

Mathuba studied carpentry and joinery at Francistown brigade. Among the challenges, Mathuba says there is lack of raw materials locally as he buys from neighboring countries and this limits the production capacity and time.
