Early Xmas for 237 orphaned and vulnerable children

- BY PHEMELO RAMASU

Smiling and grinning from ear to ear, more than 50 children from Gamodubu Child Care Trust (GCCT) were treated to an early Christmas treat on Friday.

CA Sales Company had treated them to a one-of-a kind Christmas party, with a Christmas tree, as well as Santa who granted each one of them special gifts. The centre has close to 237 registered orphans and vulnerable children. Out of these, close to 50 children call the centre home. The children come from areas surrounding Gamodubu such as Mmanoko, Mmakanke and others. It was evident from their beaming faces that this was something that really meant a lot to the children and they would cherish it for a long time.

Each child was gifted with a clothing items, school shoes, toiletry, a small envelope with an undisclosed amount of money, and many other presents that were received with glee and laughter. Besides the individual presents for the children, the centre also received donations of various food items that include weekly supply of chicken and eggs, as well as rice and pasta. The selfless and generous Shirley Madikwe, Coordinator of the Centre, was overcome by emotion. This is something that she wishes for her children, to see them genuinely happy and enjoying the life that other children enjoy at their homes with parents. “It was beautiful to see the children enjoying themselves and being treated like royalty. I am truly happy, and really appreciate this gesture,” she said. The centre mostly relies on the goodwill of donors such as CA Sales, KFC, Mr Veg, and individual donors. Madikwe was grateful that the donation will give her children choice when it comes to meals. Madikwe said that 2020 has been very hard on some of their donors as a result of Covid-19. CEO of CA Sales, Claude Hassett, said the gesture comes from the heart, and was meant to put a smile on the faces of the children. “It was a nice day for the children,” she said excitedly.
