Jwaneng Galaxy quarantined

-

Reached for comment on the matter Galaxy Chairman Njabulo Gilika said he could not comment on the issue as it will require him to divulge the medical report of a particular individual “all I can say for now is that the team is not travelling to Comoros they are in quarantine as we speak.”

Consequently the team’s trip to Comoros is both compromised and highly unlikely as local health authorities have prohibited them from travelling this week due to the mandatory quarantine they have been subjected to.

Chances are that the weekend match will be postponed; the FIFA and CAF protocols against Covid 19 necessitate that players testing positive for the virus are prohibited to play in the matches.

The emergency committee of CAF has in order allowed the different teams engaged in the CAF tournaments to have sufficient number of players to participate in matches.

Failure to honor the fixture or compete in the match means the results will be determined by the criteria set by CAF. According to CAF, a team that fails to have the minimum number of players to participate in the match they will lose the match 2-0.

Since Galaxy cannot travel to Comoros due to the travel ban, which was imposed by local health authorities, chances are that they might be considered to have lost the match 2- 0, however with their impressive 4-0 victories in the first leg the team will be expected to go through to the next stage of the tournament.

For his part, Botswana Football Association (BFA) General Manager Monnakgotla Mojaki said they couldn’t divulge any information regarding the matter at hand as they are still waiting for the doctors from the Ministry of Health to confirm the results.

“In this case you need to talk to the club, they can confirm that or deny it, I am not in a position to divulge any information, and the CEO Bennett Mamelodi can assist you with the necessary information.”

Zilimadjou were expecting to host Jwaneng Galaxy at the Stade Baumer this coming weekend as the Jwaneng based club looks to make it to the second stage of the tournament for the first time in their history, should Galaxy proceed to the next round they will face South African Champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
