ON THE RESIGNATION OF LAWRENCE OOKEDITSE FROM THE RULING PARTY

-

WHAT REALLY HAPPENS AT THE TOP THERE?

The resignation of Lawrence Ookeditse from the BDP is very telling of the secretive nature of politics. For a guy who was way too close to President Masisi and was always defending him, it is strange that of late he has been attacking the party. Many say Ookeditse deserved to be the presidential spokesperson ahead of the current guy, but was overlooked. In the meantime the president is seen to be rewarding people who were against him in the past. We have to wonder what really takes place in politics especially the leaders. People who used to attack Ian Khama are now working close to him. Those who used to call him Jeso now say he is the devil incarnate. Political leaders across the divide seem to be having this problem. One time Duma Boko loyalist Richard Khumoekae, who even wrote a book about Boko, is his greatest critic today. He even quit the BNF to show his disdain for his one time idol. Dumelang Saleshando of the BCP also had a chunk of people who used to take bullets for him who now are his greatest critic. What could be happening with our leaders? Ookeditse says he will go to the grave with all the political secrets he shared with President Masisi despite him quitting the party. That shows principle, and for the BDP leader to allow himself to lose such a gallant soldier without fighting for him is a shame. I doubt President Masisi wasn’t aware of Ookeditse’s imminent departure. If he valued him he must have done something to stop him from leaving. And if he did not; and Ookeditse has been his critic lately, one wonders, really, what could have happened between the two? [TSHEPANG MOOKETSANE]

BDP LEADERSHIP NEGLECTS FOOT SOLDIERS

Many young future democrats' dreams are diminishing under the current leadership

After perusing Lawrence Ookeditse’s statement as he departs BDP, one can deduce that many democrats are not happy at all within the ruling party. Like I have previously argued (2021), the recruitment of Opposition members by the President will cause divisions and upset loyal BDP members who have fought for the party’s success over the years. The President lacks loyalty to those who helped him to rise to power but rather he’s going around rewarding people who were against him and his party during elections. I don’t blame those who feel being overlooked by the President and want to quit to join parties where they will be appreciated. This is betrayal and lack of trust. What do to you think the likes of Hon Mabuse Pule is feeling today about the arrival of Pono Moatlhodi who will be rewarded with a deputy speakership post? Remember Tebelelo Seretse had to quit too after failing to secure a post though she was the BDP campaign manager..... there are problems brewing at BDP. The party is creating its own nuclear bomb and it is a matter of time before the clock runs down. On the flip side, this recruitment could be telling us that indeed the President was very right when before elections in Francistown he alluded that the current crop of BDP MPs who won bulelwa ditswe were incompetent and lack the necessary skills to drive his unknown vision. The desperate moves is now making sense as to why the President maid such remarks during a public gathering. As democrats right now aspiring to see yourself rewarded for your hardwork one day , where does your future lie? How do you feel when you did all the house to house campaigns, attended all the launches with too many promises that jobs will be available next thing the very same people you fought the battle against are handsomely rewarded? This is the time to reflect as an individual and decide your move before it is too late. There are too many seats in opposition, come and feel loved and appreciated. [VELLY MPOPELANG]
