ABSA DEVELOPS YOUTHFUL FINTECHS
Absa Bank Botswana will launch an online Hackathon this week in a bid to promote the development of FinTechs and entrepreneurship.
The event, which will feature a minimum of five groups of hackers (3-6 per group) would be a 24-hour challenge that aims to invite local programmers to develop and focus on the use of innovative technology to identify and solve operational challenges faced by the bank’s SME clients.
Launching the project, Absa Bank Botswana Managing Director, Keabetswe Pheko-Moshagane said the Hackathon aims to identify, upscale and facilitate skill transfer to local Botswana developers by providing them with access to market, training and tools while also initiating Absa branded digital solutions for challenges facing SMMEs. “Absa Bank Botswana is committed to playing an active role in the development of the communities in which we operate in. As a digitally led bank, we believe that there is a great need to support youth entrepreneurship, especially the development of FinTechs. We are continuously looking for innovative solutions to help our operations and through the Hackathon we are able to support youth entrepreneurship as well as find meaningful solutions for our customers. We designed this Hackathon to encourage innovation within and empower youth developers.” said Pheko-Moshagane.
The top 3 teams will receive further development attained through an incubation program. The incubation will include entrepreneurship training and master classes through the Absa Enterprise and Supply Chain Development (ESD) Centre. The event is open to novice and expert developers.
Pheko-Moshagane said Absa Bank remains committed to driving innovation and seeking creative solutions for its customers. “Our youth remain at the heart of our Citizenship Agenda and we are consistently seeking impactful ways to realise our Vision 2036 goals.” Said PhekoMoshagane.
