Botswana’s first bulb manufacturing company, The Bulb World is planning to create as much as 100 jobs this year, provided there is ample support from government.
The company which is 100 percent citizen-owned and youth led is based in Selebi Phikwe town and is already making its presence felt within Botswana highly competitive electronic subsector. The company Chief Executive Officer, Ketshephaone Jacob is upbeat of the year ahead, more especially that the company is also expanding.
“This year we are continuing with our expansion plan and the aim is to achieve exponential growth this year and beyond. We are confident that with adequate support from government for key proj-
ects and street lighting we will be able to create 100 more jobs through such projects and increasing our production line,” said Jacob in a response to The Midweek Sun questions this week.
‘ We remain grateful to Batswana who have purchased our products, but also want to encourage other Batswana who haven’t yet converted to choose us as their lighting brand for their home use because our products are superior quality’. The company’s products are found in local stores countrywide. The Bulb World which was formed a few years ago has already created 65 jobs. All the employed citizens are youth. “One of our main aims as a business is to promote youth employment and empowerment,” stressed Jacob, who is among the country’s trail-blazing young entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, the company has disclosed to The Midweek Sun that there are plans to have a fully fledged electricity and electronics school. The Bulb World is currently looking for a strategic partner to kick start this electronics school. “At a time when significant numbers of graduates are struggling to find graduate level employment we are looking to help and mentor as many graduates as we can to help them kickstart their career,” promised Jacob.
