FINAL YEAR FOR BONA EXECUTIVE

- BY KABELO GADISE

The leadership of the once promising Botswana Netball Association (BONA) will have one more year to put their house in order as the troubled association are expected to go to the polls this year.

The current regime, voted into office back in 2017, are yet to change the landscape of the association given the ground that was already cultivated by the hosting of the 2017 Netball Youth World Cup.

Local spectators and sponsors were ready to jump on board with the possibility of a return on investment now painted by the ambiance and vibes that came with the world cup.

Meanwhile, things went south after the 2017 Youth World Cup Local organizing committee(LOC) failed the audit done by the Botswana National Sport Commission(BNSC).

Additionally, issues of noncompliance rocked the association, as clubs did not comply with the register of societies and the whole of last year the association has been trying to aid clubs towards compliance.

Although President Malebo Raditladi was hopeful that things would take off, dark clouds gathered and the hope to resume play and land a sponsorship deal was blown away by the Covid-19 pandemic. It was back to square one for them, although they managed to hold their Annual General Meeting (AGM) virtually, something that had to be adopted in the new normal phase of 2020.

There was light at the end of the tunnel for the struggling association following the AGM. Now the New Year has begun and there is little to show off by the current BONA regime with the curtains swiftly coming down.

It remains to be seen if the leadership of Raditladi will be given another chance with the glimmer of hope that presented itself by the end of 2020 or there would be a different regime that takes over at BONA.
