Enraged man stabs lover to death 8-year-old son stabbed trying to defend his mom

When many lovers were enjoying candle lit dinners and sniffing on sweet scented roses on the night of Valentine’s Day this past Sunday, 33-year-old Neo Sekaba of Mahalapye was lying motionless in a pool of blood, allegedly stabbed in cold blood by her lover in Oodi.

Indications are that the alleged killer, Kabelo Jacob (34), stabbed her to death following an altercation that saw the woman and her son move out of the man’s house in Kopong village to go rent her own place in Oodi.

The grisly murder on the night of Valentine’s Day happened in the full view of Neo’s eight-year-old son who is currently hospitalised at Marina Princess Hospital from the stab wounds from his mother’s killer. Jacob is said to have turned on the primary school-going boy and equally attacked him when he tried to rescue his mother from the hands of her murderer. The man allegedly planted the same knife that killed his mother on the boy’s neck before fleeing the scene and leaving them for dead.

Broadhurst Station Commander Obusitswe Lokae told The Midweek Sun that a worried landlord informed the police of the incident. When they arrived at the crime scene late Sunday night, Neo was lying motionless on the floor.

She was rushed to Extension 2 clinic where she was certified dead upon arrival. What shocked the police about this case was that the victim was murdered on Valentine’s Day, a day meant to celebrate love and romance, and not for shedding blood. “He stabbed her twice, on the neck and on the shoulder,” Lokae said. The police boss went on to reveal that Jacob appeared before Broadhurst Magistrate court on Tuesday (yesterday), and that he remains in police custody until the 1st of March 2021.

Confirming the incident, the deceased’s uncle Kaizer Sekaba said the family is shattered.

“We are mourning the untimely death of our daughter. Her son is currently recuperating at the hospital. It is evident that that man wanted both of them dead. After stabbing the mother he tried finishing off an innocent child,” he told The Midweek Sun.

Asked if the relationship between the two lovers ever showed signs of trouble or abuse, Sekaba shared that it was a new affair, which started about four to five months back.

In fact, the family knew little about the new affair, but what they have since gathered is that the couple had allegedly been living together in Kopong. Details of what could have really transpired were still sketchy at press time, but indications, according to the uncle, are that things had turned sour between the two, leading to his niece moving out and going to rent a house in Oodi.

Yet that could not stop her killer looking for mother and son. The enraged Kabelo went hunting for them until he located the two in Oodi. “She had just moved into that house, we found her belongings still in boxes, suggesting she was yet to unpack them,” Kaizer said.
