Mfolo resurfaces as football consultant
The former Botswana Football Association (BFA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mfolo Mfolo, has taken a surprise career path after announcing his new venture into sports consultancy . Mfolo who left Lekidi a few months ago recently graduated in the Executive Programme for Sports Management and now qualifies as a football consultant.
As a fully- fledged FIFA consultant, the enterprising sports executive can offer consultancy on organisation of football, administration and finance, strategy and project management as well as marketing and sponsorship. The former BFA secretariat boss will further offer services such as communication, regulations, match day operations, event management, Infrastructure, safety and Development among others.
This newly acquired knowledge takes Mfolo into rarified air where he is in company with with football administration expert Ashford Mamelodi who had an impressive run as a FIFA consultant.
“We are from the same alumni. For me it’s a start, it is not about making profit as such but rather build a brand through social responsibility. It is about giving back to the community, youth empowerment. Given an opportunity, let us assist the government since we can do more to shape the destinies of our nation,” Mfolo said in an interview this week. With competition being the nature of business and a vehicle of growth, Mfolo said he is looking to work with other football consultants instead of competing. “Mamelodi is basically encyclopedia in this field while the likes of Styles Ntshinogang have been in the game before. I am just a novice, signaling to be counted among the greatest. So for me it is not about competition but rather what the three great minds can do for the nation,” he stressed. Furthermore, Mfolo said his business is expected to transcend football and cover many other sport codes across the country. “The business extends beyond Football, some of the modules target middle managers, even the ordinary man in the street,” he said. Mfolo was sacked following the Under-17 age cheating scandal. Some players failed an MRI scan test, and together with Comoros, Eswatini and Zimbabwe, Botswana was sent packing at the Cosafa tournament. Mfolo made a name for himself with a brilliant stint at the association, having served as the longest CEO to ever grace the BFA. His contract was extended by two years in September 2019 before he was relieved in December 2020.
