- BY LAME CHABA

Leaname Derick Makwapea hopes to make it in the photography industry. The 24-year-old he started taking photos in 2017. Makwape told Vibe recently that his photography name is Derick

Lee Snaps as it was not easy to get his name out there so he started out with free photos to build his portfolio.

Makwape said the reason why he started a photography company, is because he has passion for taking pictures.

Makwape said he realised that Botswana media is growing and the youth should be the ones trying to uplift it more and do amazing things especially on the photography aspect. As a result he want to dish out more ideas to the people and provide them with creative photography and also make a living out of it. “Photography has always been my passion from a young age, I remember I used to fear the sight of a camera flash infront of me, I would close my eyes but I was always interested in being behind the camera wondering what on earth is generating that flash light.

That got me interested in learning more about the camera. I have a picture of me young with a film camera and the way I was proud feeling like I am a photographer,” he said.

Makwape said he tries make his photography in a unique way by the way he edits his pictures or make clips out of them. He shared that sometimes he does digital paintings, cartoons on pictures or uses photoshop software in creating some designs out of his photos. He urged upcoming photographers to save up money to buy equipment as it is the most crucial thing in photography.
