Councillors warned against ‘misbehaving’
Jump and I will suspend you
Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub Council chairman Dux Mafoko is the man in charge and no one can tell him otherwise.
Mafoko was responding to allegations that he will not be able to work well with newly-appointed Sub council Secretary Losika Mosarwa.
Mosarwa takes over from Daniel Katjinotjiwa who has been redeployed to Gaborone City Council (GCC) as deputy town clerk.
“I hear some are celebrating saying they managed to get rid of Katjinotjiwa as if they are the ones in control of transfers around here.
“This is my council, I have control power, here gare nna, then secretary Mosarwa. We will run this council together. Misbehave and I will suspend you for the entire month”, Mafoko said to Mogoditshane/Thamaga councillors.
Mafoko explained that the reason he is hated is because they have tightened the loopholes in the system to block out ‘hungry councillors and ministers’ from tenders because they want them all for themselves.
“We have made changes to the evaluation process, they are in the dark about it and frustrated. They are so visibly bitter that they can even poison someone to death.
“In the past tenders used to revolve around the same names and companies but not anymore. It is better to be hated for doing right than pleasing certain individuals”, Maoko said.
The chairman said he worked well with the outgoing secretary, Katjinotjiwa. He said if it was not for Katjinotjiwa, they would have faced difficulties when it came to Covid-19 relief food rations.
“He was my right hand man, he was consultative and firm in his decisions”.
Several Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub Council councillors who gathered at
the council chambers this past Friday to bid Katjinotjiwa farewell concurred that he had been a great man for their ‘controversial’ council.
They wished him well in his future endeavours and advised Mosarwa to equally fight for what is right.
They warned Mosarwa of the bumpy road ahead, saying he will have to be firm and choose a path that will enable him to do his job well.
“Do not find yourself taking sides because you will burn, be democratic”, they said.
For his part, Mosarwa preferred to reserve his comment. “Let me study the environment and the people here first. I will have a say after settling in”, he said.
Meanwhile Councillor for Gabane, Lady Pule reminded them that there is need to release the alleged P1 million toilet report least it comes back to haunt them during election year.
“We need closure on that issue, it is a taint we have been brushed with and unless we are given that report, people will always remind us that we allegedly built a toilet for P1 million and never gave a detailed report on it”, she said.
