BISA TREASURER SUSPENDED

- BY SUN REPORTER

Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) treasurer, Tapiwa Mokoka –Kengaletswe has been slapped with a suspension letter.

This is according to a document leaked to Sun Sports and bearing the signature of BISA president, Joshua Gaotlhobogwe. Kengaletswe is expected to remain suspended for a period of three months pending her appearance at a disciplinary hearing within the same period.

The brief letter suggests that a decision to suspend Kengaletswe was reached at a meeting held on the 07th May 2021 at Oasis Motel. Details of what led to her suspension were not mentioned in the letter. In an interview this week, Kengaletswe declined to comment on the issue, noting that the relevant person to talk to was the BISA President, Joshua Gaotlhobogwe, “I cannot comment, it is best you ask the president, he can give you a comment,” she said. Reached for comment, Gaotlhobogwe said the Treasurer was suspended because she did not obey the orders of the Executive Committee. “We are eight in the Exco and if seven support a certain motion, then majority rules, she refused to make payment which was to be processed by myself.”

Gaotlhobogwe could not further divulge the details of the payments, but added that they were ordered to make a payment by offices which are even further above BISA.”We will divulge the full details at our next annual meeting, then the congress will decide if her suspension should stand or not.”

He however said the treasurer is allowed to have a different view from the entire executive, but she is not allowed to block the entire executive committee from doing its duties. Gaotlhobogwe explained that they have three other signatories, including him and the Secretary General. Meanwhile, a source close to the matter informed this publication that Kengaletswe is being punished for refusing to authorize payment of huge amounts to certain individuals and BISA officials, including Gaotlhobogwe. “Kengaletswe was asked to pay over P40 000 to certain individuals who formed part of the Joint Task Team that was recently asked to compile a report on school sport in the country. “She refused and is now suspended. Allegations are that suspending her will enable those in charge to go on and change signatories and the payments will be made from BISA coffers,” alleged the source.
