GROUND BREAKING FOR TONOTA SPORTS FACILITY
The official ground breaking of the Tonota Sport facility site was held in the North Eastern village this past week. Officiating at the event was Minister of Sport,Tumiso Rakgare and
MP for Tonota Constituency, Pono Moatlhodi, as well as Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Sports,Kago Ramokate.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the three construction companies engaged in the project have already provided employment to the youth of Tonota as a way to empower the community.
The facility is expected to be equipped to serve multiple sporting codes, including athletics and football.
RAKGARE APPLAUDS BRANCH
The Minister of Sport,Tumiso Rakgare has congratulated Monster Energy Yamaha rider, Ross Branch, following a stellar performance that saw him triumphant at the Rally Kazakhstan held in Kazakhstan.
During the international races, Ross traversed the final 267 km stage with rocky plateaus and technical descents to successfully win the Rally Kazakhstan
at a time of 14:39:02. Branch is expected to compete in other high profile races later on the year including the Dakar Rally 2022 edition which will be his third Dakar Rally, next year.
BAA HOSTS RACE MEET
The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) hosted a track and field event this past weekend, which was aimed at according local athletes a chance to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics as well as the World Junior Championships.
According to the BAA, the event also acted as a measure for the athletics team preparation ahead of the Tokyo Olympics and the Junior Championships.
The meet was attended by Zambia Athletics and some of the National Team athletes. The event was powered by Botswana National Sport Commission, Botswana National Olympic Committee as well as Golden Door Sport Agency.
LEBOTSE-SEBEGO DONATES HAMPERS
Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) Board Vice-chairperson,Tebogo Lebotse Sebego recently donated toiletry hampers to the Paralympics Association of Botswana (PASSOBO).
When delivering her keynote address, Lebotse Sebego shared that the rationale behind the initiative emanated from a conversation she had with her colleague, Tebogo Tshenyo, PASSOBO rep in the BNSC Board. She further reiterated that her ultimate goal is to play a meaningful role and make a difference in sport. Lebotse Sebego also gave a word of encouragement to the PASSOBO national team that is in South Africa to compete in the Athletics Gauteng North (AGN), Track and Field Leagues which began on the 12th until 19th June 2021.
