KWAITO MENTAL CONDEMNS GBV THROUGH SONG

- BY IRENE SHONE

Lebogang Mahlakata popularly known as Kwaito Mental in the music industry, has just released a new song dubbed ‘It’s Enough’.

This music offering comes as a concern over an alarming rate of Gender Based Violence(GBV) cases in the country, Kwaito Mental said. “This song was inspired by people around me, the society of Botswana and in fact the whole world, looking at the fact that in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, GBV has come to play as yet another pandemic,” he said. He further said that he had to release a song to send out a message that it is enough.

Kwaito Mental explained that as a songwriter, he always looks forward to writing meaningful songs to give hope to his listeners. “Just like many of my songs, It’s Enough is based on true life stories, and especially speaks for women and children as they often find themselves as victims of GBV. I believe that people need awareness regarding such issues, and music is one art through which people can convey a message,” he said.

In the song he features OatsDona and Thunder. The single was produced by

Dubbling at DNX Records. The song, which is a mixture of Kwaito and Hip hop genre, is already receiving a lot of airplay on local radio stations.

He is convinced that the song will reach out to broken hearts, and mend them, and reiterates that this is the time when people need each other the most. “I am impressed by the positive feedback that this song is getting, and believe that it touches mended hearts out there,” he said. Kwaito Mental anticipates releasing a video to this song before end of the year.
