Beware the Delta tsunami that is coming
The third wave is here. DELTA is here. In the coming days we will be faced with a TSUNAMI. This will be like nothing we have faced before. July will be like no month we have ever faced before with Covid. The ultimate solution is the VACCINE. Other measures are only there to buy us time to vaccinate our people. Even if we can be lucky to get all the vaccine we need by the start of next week, we will still be in trouble. Why:
1) It will take months to vaccinate all those who are eligible. Look at the First World which has enough vaccines but is still struggling to get to herd immunity (around 70percent)
2) The most benefit with vaccines is after 2 doses - full vaccination with our current vaccines Sinovac (1month) and astrazaneca (3months) - so you need at least a month to fully vaccinate an individual and at least another 2 weeks for the vaccine to have the full effect on the body. This simply means even if we were to get the vaccine now, it can only be a medium term solution. It will not help us now with the current crisis. The health facilities will still be expected to offer the services which they were struggling with, prior to COVID on top of COVID. We are BEHIND when we are already BEHIND.
Covid is unlike anything we have faced before. Naturally, mistakes will be made; there is a lot of trial and error as this is a new disease and we continue to learn. This is not the time to BLAME each other and politicise the current situation we find ourselves facing. We can’t waste time on that while our people continue to die. WE WILL POINT FINGERS LATER after coming together to save lives. The only way out for the current solution is to come together as one. I urge my beloved PARTY which has invested MILLIONS of PULA training healthcare professionals to set goals and targets and allow them to lead us to victory. We have seen with the USA Mr Trump opting for the mainly POLITICAL approach and Mr Biden with a more SCIENCE-led approach and the results speak for themselves. My PARTY always says it is there ‘TO CREATE AN ENABLING ENVIRONMENT,’ a supportive role. Let’s allow the experts we have in this country to do their job freely. The SHORT TERM solution out of the current situation will require the CITIZENS to sacrifice most of our freedoms for a while; to help our leaders to flatten the curve. ‘Re tla tla re omana morago.’ Otherwise we will be doomed. There is just no other way out. Unlike in the past, the government cannot get us out of this hole on their own. We all played a role in where we are today. Here is what we should do:
1) Allow HEALTH EXPERTS the freedom and support to do their work and lead us to victory. Long term goal and planning for yearly vaccinations should start as latest reasearch is suggesting, with mutations and vaccine potency waving over time, check out latest data on Pfidzer and studies in Israel.
2) GOVERNMENT must set a dashboard (targets) and ask the difficult questions to the EXPERTS. It should play an ENABLER and OVERSIGHT role. This is not the time for micromanagement.
3) The CITIZENS should expect and sacrifice some of the freedoms we used to enjoy temporarily. We should play our part and follow the controls. We should temporarily set aside our POLITICAL differences and come together to SAVE our country.
This is going to be a rough ride. I am just a concerned citizen offering my little advice with the little training I received from my beloved government. Together we shall overcome. There is strength in UNITY. I pray to GOD to bless our PRESIDENT with the WISDOM to lead us in these trying times. [DR TSAONE SEKANAME]
