YAMAs 21 launch brings electrifying vibe
The Yarona FM Music Awards (YAMAs) will continue despite the COVID- 19 pandemic, which has disrupted events and festivals from taking place. The virtual launch of the 7th edition, held last week, brought some of the most electrifying energy.
The event, which was hosted by Loungo ‘King B’ Pitse and Lebowa ‘LB’ Moroen came with a lot of surprises from the nominees’ side and also some exciting performances from new kids on the block Ubuntu Band and rap star Veezo View.
There is stiff competition in all the respective categories, the big surprise is Han C bagging six nominations followed by comedian
cum- rapperWilliam KRM Last who has five nominations.
The late Sasa Klaas has been nominated in several categories also which left most of her fans emotional and excited that her legacy lives on.
Yarona FM station manager Kelly Ramputswa-Tlale said the YAMAs seek to acknowledge, appreciate and promote musicians in Botswana particularly in the field of urban and modern music.“AtYarona FM, we aim to celebrate and reward music that has made a significant impact in Botswana’s music industry and particularly passed through Yarona FM’s airwaves between the 1st of January 2020 and the 31st of April 2021,” she said. She further said while the past year has been a difficult period for the entertainment industry, through theYAMAS we are hoping in helping artists in different ways.
‘We are working closely with sponsors and ensuring that we manage to give every winning artist something during the official ceremony later this year.We are also pleading with potential sponsors to come aboard so we can map out a way of helping the entertainment industry players.
Voting lines have been open for people to vote for their favourite artists, the winners will be awarded during the official ceremony that that will take place in September on a date yet to be announced by theYAMAS team.
