Ostriches vaccinated
The entire Orapa United squad and technical team have received their vaccine shots. The Ostriches received a single dose of the Johnson and Johnson Vaccine this week, becoming the first local team to be fully vaccinated.
“We are thankful to government, we are honored by what the government is doing and encouraging people to take the vaccine; we took the responsibility to be vaccinated when the opportunity presented itself and we encourage everyone to make sure that they are vaccinated,” Orapa United mouthpiece, Amelton Gaefhele said in an interview.
The Ostriches had to be vaccinated since they will be participating in the CAF Interclub tournament this coming season. “We are going to compete in CAF and we will be traveling to Gabon as such I believe it’s a necessary precaution that the team had to be vaccinated before departure to Fransville in Gabon.”
On the other hand, Jwaneng Galaxy spokesperson, Tankiso
Morake declined to make a comment when quizzed about the vaccine roll out at his team, who will also compete in the CAF Interclub tournaments.
Orapa United return to the Confederations Cup. They face an unfamiliar opponent, As Mangasport of Gabon. Although, the Ostriches have not gone beyond the preliminary round on three occasions in the past, it remains to be see if this time thy can extend their stay.
Meanwhile, Galaxy are drawn against a sizeable opponent DFC Beme Arrondissement of Central
African Republic (CAR) in the preliminary round of the Champions League. The Jwaneng based outfit will be making a historic second appearance in the Champions League.
The Debswana backed Galaxy were knocked out of the competition in the first round by Mamelodi Sundowns in the previous edition, following a 5-1 trashing on aggregate. In their second attempt, it remains to be seen if Galaxy will defy the odds or match fitness will be an issue since there hasn’t been football activities for the past 16 months.
