AMANTLE BROWN UNFAZED

MUSIC STAR SAYS SHE IS MISUNDERSTOOD • I speak my mind without fear • Stands by her Mjolo song despite criticism

Musician Amantle Brown says she is misunderstood, which leads to her being bashed and attacked constantly on social media.

However, she will not stop speaking her mind, because gone are the days when she feared public reaction and comments. She is now her own person and remains rooted to her dreams and music career.

“I am mostly misunderstood and many feel I am an arrogant person but I am just a free spirited soul. I just suspect some still want to treat me as the 18-year-old Amantle they met when I started my music career. But I am 28 now, mature and confident in what I do,” she said.

The young artiste has in the past few weeks seen stones hurled at her and being hauled on hot coals as well as accused of being jealous of the South African artiste, Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona artist, popularly known as Makhadzi. Makhadzi is expected to perform at a show in Botswana on the 22nd of October 2021. “All I said was that I have no issue with Makhadzi coming to Botswana. I really have no issues with that. I am happy for her. She has made her mark and is now being rewarded for her hard work. “I aim for that too, I want to see myself going international, going far places such as New York,” she said. Brown believes her words were twisted in that while admiring the successes of Makhadzi, many assumed that she was complaining. “I was not complaining. I was saying that because I was seeing how some were not so happy about her coming to Botswana and debates that followed suggested that the South African artiste was coming to Botswana because local artistes have zero content. “That is what I said, I do not appreciate being looked down upon just because an international artiste is coming this side. We all know that some people are just not interested in local music and would rather go international than supporting us here, it is fine but it does not mean we are not talented,” Brown argued. She explained that when she released her song ‘Mjolo’ early this week, some were quick to dismiss it as boring. Others were hellbent on telling her that she remains below Makhadzi’s level and should stay in her lane. Nonetheless she stands by her song. “That is why I released it to the public. I was even told that Makhadzi released a song titled Mjolo so it means I’m a copycat but I long worked on that song before she even released hers but some will still choose not to believe me. “Makhadzi has her own style of music and I have mine. My song has its own target audience and so is hers. I know well that it will not fit at festivals or the likes but surely it will do for corporate events. So you cannot compare my song to someone else’s and deem it boring,” Amantle retorted.
