BATSWANA SAY BW ARTISTES ARE BORING

-

Local music star Amantle Brown took to facebook this past weekend to post a double-edged message where on the one hand she complained of being neglected and overlooked by local show promoters who invite foreign nationals to come and perform in Botswana, and on the other she encouraged local revelers to attend the impending Makhadzi show in great numbers.

Amantle was making reference to the Gilbert Promotions’ show set for October 22 at Molapo Piazza where South African Makhadzi is the headline artiste. Those who read and reacted to Amantle’s post were not so kind to the local muso, telling her that she and other Botswana artists either produce boring music or they copy works from other countries. Almost all those who commented on Amantle’s post said even if she could be called for a music concert at a very small venue, she would still fail to fill up the place. Gatwe during the lockdowns in South Africa and Botswana, Amantle and other Botswana artists ba ne ba diilwe ke go kopa handouts from Government while artists in other African countries were busy working on their music. Amantle was further advised to stop singing bedroom songs and go for the mzobozobo type. They say only Vee in Botswana deserves the attention Makhadzi would be given because he sings what the majority of local revelers want to hear at a show. In fact, one of those who commented accused Amantle of thinking she was too big for local promoters when at her peak, she charged P25k for a show while Vee and some South African artists could perform for only P10k. Gatwe Amantle a didimale fela a dire music o sa robatseng, that’s when the people shall attend her shows
