Kedisaletse leaves for India
Top table tennis star wins tertiary education scholarship
Table Tennis sensation, Oratile Kedisaletse has secured a scholarship from the India Council and Cultural Relations (ICCR) and is expected to leave the country for India, where she will study a Civil Engineering course at Gujarat Technological University.
Kedisaletse has been one of the most consistent female players in the country and she becomes the second to benefit from the scholarship after Phetso Jack, who left for India earlier this year.
Speaking in an interview this week, Botswana Table Tennis (BTTA) Assistant Public Relations Officer, Arthur Kgaswe said the criteria used to select the athlete for this scholarship is done by the ICCR.
“Our players apply for the scholarship and they are either approved or rejected by those who are doing the selection process, our athletes need to have acquired 36 points from their BGCSE exams.”
Furthermore, he said two other players will be announced in a short while as they will also get the opportunity to study in India while playing Table Tennis. “We are expecting two others to benefit in a short while; they will also leave for India to play and study.”
Moreover, he urged the athletes to grab the opportunity with both hands and use their time to learn and to grow outside the comfort of their country as well as to work hard in the sport.
The BTTA Executive committee has since expressed its gratitude to the Indian High Commissioner in Botswana for offering one Table Tennis player long term scholarship every year. The move will enable BTTA to achieve one of its strategic objective, being to improve international competitiveness through offering athletes an opportunity to study courses of their choice and play Table Tennis in one of the best clubs in India with Stag International monitoring their Table Tennis progress while in India, on behalf of BTTA.
Kedisaletse is expected to leave on the 13 October 2021, following the delay of her Visa and the test for COVID-19.
