KsCooks launches Pink sweet treats for cancer activism

- BY KELETSO THOBEGA

The Breast Cancer Awareness month bake sale dubbed Ks Pink Treats, which launched on October 3 by food catering company, KsCooks, will go on until the end of this month.

The bake sale offers a variety of delectable desserts that include homemade cupcakes, sheet cakes, bundt cakes and cookies.

Minimum orders are ready within three hours and larger batches and corporate orders require at least 24 hours’ notice.

Director of KsCooks, Koketso Sheleni, said the Ks Pink Treats holds a special place in his heart considering that he is also a cancer survivor. He said through the Ks Pink Treats, he hopes to ensure that proceeds of the bake sale go into funding a retreat resort tailored for oncology patients; this will include facilities such as an obstacle course, spa, garden and other physical amenities. We are also looking into acquiring local cosmetics from Nalie Brand through a ‘Feel Better’ programme, where we hold free workshops that give beauty tips and complimentary make-up kits to women going through cancer treatment, or those facing cancer diagnosis. There is also a food donation programme called ‘The Munchies’ and a fitness wellness programme withTeam Life Fitness.”

As a cancer survivor, Sheleni knows too well how overwhelming diagnosis and treatment can be. He said keeping a positive outlook is proven to help with stress management, but when someone says to ‘think positive’ or ‘be optimistic’ during a time such as cancer, it can be much easier said than done.

“We know that cancer isn’t all rainbow and butterflies, and once a patient enters a dark mindset, it can be hard to get out of it. But most of us have that one message of hope and inspiration that somehow manages to help bring some perspective and optimism to a situation. I want people to know that you beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and twice as beautiful as you ever imagined. Don’t let cancer cause you to sell yourself short or forget your worth. I also want to remind stakeholders that they can do better, if only they could let those with firsthand experience guide them.”
