- BY SUN REPORTER

The Botswana Badminton Association (BBA) has sent a small team of four players to the All Africa Senior Championships in Uganda from October 21st to 29th; the team however, has been given a mammoth task to at least finish the tournament in the top 5 bracket, out of 15 countries which will be participating in the tournament.

The team is made of two men, Tumisang Olekantse, Tshepo Perekisi and two females Tessa Kabelo and Tebogo Ndzinge who are expected to raise the national flag high and dominate the scenes in Uganda.

“We are from a long break due to Covid-19 but we have provided the players with adequate training time; they have had weekend training camps for sometime to prepare and train.

We know it might have not been enough but we hope and believe that they will bring desired result,” BBA Secretary General, Thuso Mudungo said in a telephone interview.

He added that the team is one for the future since it is relatively young. The team is expected to at least finish fifth in the tournament. “Although there will be rigorous matches, the target was made considering that we didn’t send many players due to financial constraints.

“We are playing teams that have been exposed to a lot of championships and are experienced; for team championship they should be among the top 5 and individually, they should push themselves and at least finish in the top 15, looking at the fact that there will be 64 individuals in a draw.”

The team is under the guidance of Oreeditse Thela as the coach, while the team manager, also head of delegation is Modisaotsile Badubi, who makes up part of the technical team for the games in Uganda. The team is expected back in the country before November 1st.
