- BY KELETSO THOBEGA

Thabang Tidimane established Kasi Vibes and Foodies several years ago, after deciding to try his hand at business.

Selebi Phikwe based Kasi Vibes and Foodies mobile restaurant and catering businesses offers fast food such as steaks and chips, burgers, pizzas and platters, among others.

They also offer catering for different private functions, including lovers’ dates, weddings, parties and corporate events. The enterprising chef said the aim is to offer food that has the wholesome flavours that resonate with township life, hence the name, Kasi Vibes. Tidimane holds a certificate in food production from Maun Career Dreams, and a certificate in French pastry and baking from Midrand Baking school

in South Africa. He said he was inspired to go into food catering by his mother, who owned a catering business when he was growing up. “I used to help out in my mother’s business, and she would pay me a small fee,” he said. Noticing her son’s love for food, she sent him to culinary school. He did a bit of field work upon completion of his studies but soon realised that the money he earned was too little and pondered business. “My mother told me to be wise and monetise my talent… That’s when I started selling food at events and shows such as chill sessions. I also catered for private schools and tuition centres. My business started growing steadily from there,” he said.

Tidimane said his clients bring him the most joy because they are huge fans of his cooking. He further said that the feedback

from clients is usually the most interesting part of his work. “They also make realise how I can improve, and inspire me to create and introduce new flavours or dishes to our menu, which is an exciting process as it helps him come up with good products.” The enterprising chef said his current challenge is lack of operation space as he works form home, but he expressed confidence that once he has secured funding, he would find a business space. Tidimane said his most memorable business moment was his first corporate gig, when he catered for SPEDU. Another success was most recently, when he catered for a group of American tourists for a three-day event at Terrafou Lodge in Tuli Block.
