- BY SUN REPORTER

Mexican Girls FC players, Sega Didukanyane and Rethabile Segobye have been granted an opportunity to study at New Era College, courtesy of the Ghotrati Foundation Scholarship.

The two players have been admitted for a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics, which commenced on September 2021 and will end on December of 2025. Speaking in an interview, Phenyo Semumu, who is the Sport Coordinator at New Era College, said they will soon make the announcement. Although the players have started with school, they prefer to have a proper unveiling of the partnership with Mexican Girls. Announcement over the deal will be announced this week at a press conference, however this deal is expected to go a long way in bridging the gap that exists between sport and education among communities. Most football stars across the world have pursued academic excellence alongside the sport as a way of backing up their careers who are somehow short in nature as compared to other professions. Beginning a professional career at a very young age, most footballers give up academic education after school. However, several teams and organizations have influenced players to continue with their education while still playing. A footballer’s professional career is relatively short-lived as most retire around the age of 35 and some even earlier, due to career ending injuries. Some players turn towards coaching to stay in the sport, while other end in punditry and very few utilize their qualifications which are not sport related. The partnership is expected to be officially announced between the two entities and a lot of players are expected to benefit from the initiative from now going into the future with a lot of players expected to be absorbed into the programme.
