Mothibedi defends against Ngaka

- BY SUN REPORTER

After a postponement due to Covid-19, Judgment day has finally arrived as the two local boxers Onkarabile ”Scara” Mothibedi and Moabi “The Eagle” Ngaka clash for the super bantamweight supremacy when they meet in the middle of the ring this Friday. Defending Champion, Mothibedi is looking to fending off challenger, Ngaka in the mouth-watering fight.

The fierce rivals collide this Saturday at Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) with the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Super Bantamweight title which sees Mothibedi as defending champions and Ngaka as the challenger.

Defending champion ,Mothibedi’s hunger for competition has been on the rise and he is aiming to further cement his place in

the history books with another outstanding achievement against a tantalizing opponent intent on making his own name inside the boxing ring.

“I am well prepared, I am fit and I have no weight problems or injuries, all that is left for me is to just make up final touches before the fight and we are good to defend what belongs to us,” Mothibedi said in a telephone interview this week.

Quizzed about how much he has studied the opponent, the defending champion said he has discovered a lot of loopholes in the tactics of his opponent.

“I know Moabi, I know how he fights and I will have to counter on that because he is the one boxer who doesn’t have a proper strategy for the fight; he just fights because it’s boxing, it will be an easy fight more so that it will be 12 rounds.”

Defending the title for the first time, Mothibedi says the fight is more important than ever because now he has something to fight for.”

As much as I know what I am fighting for I am relaxed, I will be going into the fight to continue where I left off last year, I will continue to be the champion,” he said. Furthermore, Mothibedi said he does not only owe the win to himself but to his fans, friends, family and sponsors.

“The title is for my friends, fans, sponsors and everyone who is behind me should expect more from this fight. Companies like AfricanCrowd, Benju Distributors, Score Energy Drinks, Vvtm Beauty Spar have been very supportive and they deserve a victorious night on Saturday.” Scara, as he is known, has a daunting task of enhancing his own legacy further and defending his title for the

first time since winning the title last year.

On the other hand, Ngaka seems determined to put in a challenge.

“I’m 100 percent prepared for the fight, everything is going according to our plan.” For him, winning the title will be a window of opportunity to start challenging and fighting for more international titles.

Quizzed about his opponent, Ngaka said he knows his opponent and has done his homework accordingly. “I know him well even though I don’t know which style he is bringing this time but he doesn’t scare me at all,” he said.

Stamina, resolve and precision will prove as important as game plans and strategies in the 12 rounds fight. Ngaka will decide whether to retreat from the shell and last the course or stand and fight for the biggest win of his life.
