Ezra Neethings takes Praise and Worship to greater heights

- BY KELETSO THOBEGA

Gospel star Ezra Neethings, is making waves in the music industry with his uplifting praise and worship gospel music. His single, Destiny, released in 2020, catapulted him to musical stardom and he has not looked back since then. Earlier this year he released his debut album titled City Walls.

The singer is a late bloomer in the sense that he discovered his talent when he was older. In an interview with Vibe, the gospel star said he didn’t know that he could sing until he was 17, and even after discovering his talent, he didn’t think much of it until he was discovered by a record label in South Africa.

The singer was born Esere Diloro in Selebi-Phikwe where he was also raised. He explained that he does not come from a musical family - in fact, music was far from his family’s interest growing up - which could explain why it took him a long time to identify his music talent.

He said after completing his From 5 in 2016, he didn’t know what to do, until a year later, when he got a job as a special constable at the Selebi Phikwe Police Station.

He said he was still not into music at the time, but he started taking his talent seriously after he was coincidentally discovered by South Africa based record label, Major 1 Records, which gave him a platform in 2019.

The following year he released Destiny, and has not looked back since then.

Ezra Neethings said his music is inspired by his upbringing.

“I come from economically challenged background - we were not well off when I was growing up - so the will to push and use my talent to change my life around propelled me to aim higher. I also wanted to use my music to inspire change, and encourage others to appreciate their potential and the change that can happen in their lives if they put God in control of their lives. I believe that I can change the world through my music and I am grateful to God for blessing me with this talent,” he said.

He further said that sharing the good news of the greatness of God is important in his music.

“Because I write gospel, or good news music, if I may put it that way... I want to see someone understand the reality of God, and just feel good about themselves, because I love sending out positive vibes and that’s how I believe that I can change the world,” he said.

Ezra Neethings said the highlight of his music journey so far, is performing at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg, South Africa. He said seeing his album topping the charts has also brought him great joy.

“Seeing my album doing well and some of my songs playing on Trace are some of the highlights, including following the overwhelming positive response to my music. It is hard to believe that it has been just two and a half years and I am grateful to God for making it all possible,” he said. The gospel star said he would like to grow his craft and go international. Collaborations are also high on his priority list. “I would like to one day collaborate with the likes of Zeus, Samantha Mogwe and Dato Seiko among others. I am also keen to work on international collaborations and I am excited about twhat the future has in store for me,” he said.

Ezra Neethings’ music is available for download and streaming on iTunes, Spotify and Bemastores.com.
